OXYGEN PROBE

MINCO Oxygen activity measurement probe (MINOX)

The Minco  probe was developed to determine the oxygen activity of molten metals. By means of this value and the condition of equilibrium, other important metallurgical parameters can be calculated such as Carbon content, Aluminum content, or Aluminum addition.

The MINCO probe is in continuous development.

Design

The measurement head consists of a body of resin-bound sand with a metal sleeve inside. The metal sleeve consists of the EMF measurement cell and the thermocouple encased in refractory cement which serves as insulation.

The zirconium oxide electrochemical cell monitors the partial pressure difference between the steel bath and the known cell reference (Cr/Cr2O3) as EMF. Simultaneous measurement of the temperature and the application of Nernst´s law is used to provide the measurement of oxygen activity (EMF = RT/nF *ln(pO2/pO1).

Minox Oxygen Probes are available with thermocouples types “S” (Pt-10%Rh/Pt), “R” (Pt-13%Rh/Pt) and “B” (Pt-30%Rh/Pt-6%Rh) to IEC 584.

5 mV.± 1 mV and ±The application range for active oxygen measurement is between 1-2000 PPM with a reproducibility depending on the specific conditions between

MetNet Instrumentation, accessories and hardware complete the system for active oxygen measurement.
